You don't have to reinstall the whole program, did you select not to install Font Navigator when you installed X3? If you didn't it is in your X3 program directory already. Or have I not noticed something? (Frankly I don't fully understand the open type business anyway, for my purposes I seem to be OK with Truetype)

At the moment only about 90 of my 3000 fonts are open type (I can only identify them BTW because they have a different icon), but it seems to make no difference to x3 if a font is open type or not, if the font is installed x3 recognizes it. I'm not sure how that affects how I'm working with x3. You wrote "the default fonts for X3 are open type". And in this connection BTW, I would think I could start a new install over the old and just install FN. Wait'll I tell 'em I'm just a beginner, heh heh!īack to your post tho, first, as far as a new scan is concerned, you mean, if and when I do a complete new install of x3 and then FN with it? I think that till the workaround gets on my nerves I can wait. Most of my friends think I'm nuts with 3,000. OpenType fonts pretty much remove many of the limitations of the original font technology.40,000! Gulp! You've just redefined the word "fontaholic" for me, gingem. This includes all sorts of diacritics, swash lettering, initial, median and final letter forms, russian, greek, symbols.

It also means that you don't need to buy and select alternative fonts just to use small caps, Old-Style numbers, etc, etc.Īdobe's flagship Garamond Premier Pro has over 2700 glyphs in one font file: that over ten times the standard Type 1 font. This allows far greater typographic freedom and control. Secondly, OT fonts allow many more glyphs and different variants of the same char, so that you can specify in an OT-aware app like InDesign that a char should be swash, small caps, non-lining figures, ligature, etc, etc - all from within the same font. So Type 1 PS fonts and OT fonts in a PS flavour are both slightly more accurate and precise than 'standard' TrueType fonts. PostScript format fonts use more precise methods of describing curves than TrueType ones. To expand on what has already been said: this is far from the case.įirstly, OT fonts can be either PostScript or TrueType in "flavour". FWIW, I never found the need for any Adobe postscript font, so there is no positive advantage to Open fonts for me. I believe Open type fonts are nothing more than an Adobe postscript font converted to TTF. Perchance, do you know of a better font manager that is also free, one that can do the two tasks iterated above that BFN v6 cannot do?

Continue installing fonts anyway?" That message was undoubtedly intended for W9x systems.

This number of installed fonts can impact system and application performance. V6 does remove, when attempting to install new fonts, the outdated warning message of "More than 400 fonts will be installed in Windows. V6 still does not give me a count of the fonts in the catalog, although it does so for the installed fonts as does v2.Īlso, while both v2 and v6 will show duplicates of fonts and where they are located, there is no facility to remove those unneeded duplicates. That is disappointing, as I would have thought the latest and greatest would have a number of new useful features. However, other than a toolbar link to, I do not see any difference between v2 (1997) and v6. Yes, from that website, I downloaded the CorelDraw Graphics Suite X5 trial, with which to gain access to the Bitstream Font Navigator v6. While the demo of Draw is limited, the suite includes a copy of FN that isn't.

Someone, Michael Rowley I think, mentioned that you could download a demo of the Corel Draw suite. Any chance you've got a copy on your WP8 CDs? Or is WP8 pre-Corel?
